Special Collaboration with Katie Parla: Italian Wedding Soup

Buongiorno! We've got a molto speciale treat this month!

We've partnered with Katie Parla, one of our favorite food and travel writers in the world, to celebrate the launch of her new cookbook Food of the Italian South. All monthlong, we will be serving Katie's Minestra Maritata, or Italian Wedding Soup, from her book, which comes out on March 12. 

As part of the festivities, join us at our shop on Carmine Street for aperitivo with Katie this Tuesday, March 5. She'll preview the new cookbook and answer all things South Italy. We'll have wine, cheese, meats, and soup. Did we mention it was Mardi Gras? La dolce vita!

If you can't make it, have no fear. We'll be serving the soup all month long, and we will also have signed copies of Food of the Italian South for purchase in our shops.

More on the Soup
While the Italian-American version of this soup is usually made with meatballs, this is a more rustic version that is truer to its Italian roots. It's a wonderful combination of a rich pork broth, osso buco, pork sausage, and very hearty greens such as dandelion greens, spigarello, kale, endive, and escarole. Fun fact: Italian Wedding Soup has nothing to do with weddings! It's named for the marriage of the two broths, one from cooking the meats, the other from cooking the greens. Come join us this March for maybe the best version we've ever had!
