Earth Day Series: Our Packaging

Every day, 8 million pieces of plastic enter our oceans. In America, each of us generates an average of 4.9 pounds of solid trash every day. 8 million, 4.9 pounds. Every day! For the next installment of our sustainability series, we’re going to discuss how Good Stock is attempting to do its part to stem that. We’re going to highlight the environmentally friendly features of our packaging, and we’ll start from the inside out.

First up are our soup pouches. This is an area we’ve worked on for a while, as it’s hard to find something that’s sustainable, food-safe, AND freezer-safe. We’re excited to say that we’re finally getting greener in this area. We are in the process of moving to pouches that are made with up to 40% post-consumer recycled material. We’re already using these for our Brownie Bite and Garlic Crouton pouches, and we’ll be introducing these for soup in 4-6 weeks.

Next is the insulation that keeps your soups cold. It’s called Green Cell Foam, and it’s made from corn. This insulation is 100% compostable, and it burns safely too. You can use it to send smoke signals, burn secret notes, or fire up the grill at your next cookout. It can also be buried in your garden or pots and used as plant food. Really! Finally, it’s also 100% water soluble. Run the insulation under your faucet in the sink and enjoy the ASMR qualities as the insulation pops, crackles, then disappears from your hands down the drain. For those of you with little Soup Troopers, this is a hit with the kids.
Finally, the cardboard boxes that hold everything together are curbside recyclable. Sort of standard after considering the excitement of PCR pouches and amazing insulation, but good to know nonetheless.

Next up in Part 3, we’ll talk about our operations and environmentally friendly practices. Any tips, ideas, suggestions, or thoughts, we welcome them! Just reply to this or shoot us an email at stockup@goodstocksoups.com.
